Revelio!

The project is made at the intersection of manual labour and digital image, reflecting the relationship between weaving and computer programs. It consists of three tapestries with screenshots of popular video games and a video essay with a recording of the artist's stream. It is a peculiar combination of the slow process of weaving and freezing in screenshots of rapidly flashing images.

«In the video essay I want to convey the visual similarity between the weavers and the monitor. Glitch screens are very similar to fabric, which in turn acts as a prototype for a phone or laptop screen. There are close-up shots of my jacquard fabrics that refer to the aesthetics of early computer graphics with their grain.

It is important for me to talk about the relationship between looms and computer programs. With the development of AI, we see the mythologisation of technology as something we cannot know or control, something that exists separately. But we can create the structures that we think are important, to resist global capitalist corporations. This is not something that is revealed to us from above. The digital age is born from manual labour, handicraft, its roots lead back to the loom.»
